I recently retired after more than thirty years as professor of chemistry at a public university. In additions to engaging in teaching and discovery research I served as Program Director/Principal Investigator in a number of federal research and student-training grants totally greater than $18 million. The research resulted in many papers published in peer-reviewed journals. I personally mentored more than 40 students in my research lab, and a number of them are co-authors on these papers. More than 300 students supported by the training grants were awarded STEM baccalaureate degrees, and of these 33 have gone on to achieve Ph.D. degrees in a range of science disciplines.
Since my formal retirement, I continued as the principal grantwriter and member of the Advisory Committee on several successful grants. I have also offered workshops for university faculty in grant writing and the preparation of their successful research grant applications. Outside the university, I served as the grantwriter and Development Director for a touring, not-for-profit Chicago theater company presenting programs on social issues to children, adults, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. At this stage of my professional career I look forward to offering my expertise serving the grant needs of other institutions – universities and other non-profits.
As indicated in the title of this website, I offer to work with personnel of universities and other non-profits to identify needs of their institution and seek sources of funding support primarily from governmental and other agencies. Once a funding source is identified I will offer assistance in formulating a competitive application and an efficient program management plan.
